چکیده

In the introduction to the third and last volume of his Philosophy of Symbolic Forms of 1929, entitled " Phenomenology of Knowledge, " Ernst Cassirer remarks that the meaning in which he employs the term 'phenomenology' is Hegelian rather than according to " the modern usage of the term. " 1 What sense can it make, then, to invoke Edmund Husserl's phenomenology in this context? Yet if, roughly speaking, phenomenology can be characterized as the logos of phenomena, that is, of being insofar as it appears (phainesthai) to a conscious subject, then the sense of phenomenology need not be so different from what Cassirer terms " the modern usage. " 2 Phenomenology in this more liberal sense would be an account of how consciousness experiences the world through different forms of experience and in different spaces of meaning. The addition 'hermeneutic', moreover, points to a broader methodological scope —————— 1.

Some refl ections on the phenomenological method

There is no unique and defi nitive defi nition of phenomenology. It is rather a method and an experience always open and always renewing itself. This is the main thesis of the phenomenolog...

The Expression of the Divine Order Through the Art of Sculpture in the Greek Art Religion (According to Hegel’s Lectures on Fine Art and his Phenomenology of Spirit)

The art of Greek sculpture is the most complete and appropriate visual form of expression of the divine in the Greek art religion and similar types in the earlier and later religions. In Greek sculpture, form and content are in balance and interact with each other. The Spirit and the material have no dominion over one another. The spirit (divine) recognizes as its proper home the human body, an...

Context and Mythology

In this thesis, I will survey some philosophically representative approaches to the problem of the relationship between context and meaning. Starting from G.W.F. Hegel’s discussion of the meaninglessness of indexical terms in the Phenomenology of Spirit, I will investigate Gottlob Frege’s notion of context and the legacy of this notion in the formal sciences of language, showing that this appro...

The duality of non-conceptual content in Husserl’s phenomenology of perception1

Recently, a number of epistemologists have argued that there are no non-conceptual elements in representational content. On their view, the only sort of non-conceptual elements are components of sub-personal organic hardware that, because they enjoy no veridical role, must be construed epistemologically irrelevant. By reviewing a 35-year-old debate initiated by Dagfinn Følledal, I believe Husse...
